Eye Candy

We love enhancing our eyes with liners and eyeshadows, but we're not particularly pleased when there's residual make-up left around our pupils after we think we've removed it all. Enter MAKE UP FOR EVER SENS'EYES Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser, our new fave for soothing, optimal eye makeup removal. The mineral oil-free gel is incredibly gentle, and leaving our eyelids feeling moisturized - even waterproof mascara is no match for this cleanser. Bonus: the lightweight cleanser is gentle enough to use for removing lipstick, too.

Pretty as a Peacock

Happy Halloween! Are you getting into the spooky spirit? Because we are, and so are our kiddies. We scoured stores far and wide, online and in our neck of the woods, to find the perfect getup for our baby. We are positively in love with the Pottery Barn Kids Baby Peacock Costume, which has layers of coloured felt and shimmering tulle. Made of micro-fleece and lined with poly cotton, our little peacock will stay warm and cozy as she trick-or-treats from door to door. Bonus for mom: the body suit has a Velcro closure — very helpful when you're struggling to put on and take off the costume from a squirmy toddler. And really, when you have a little one, any day is a dress-up day, so the costume will most certainly be re-used often for make-believe and playtime.

Check out more of the Pottery Barn Kids Halloween Costume Collection in this cute video:

Visit the official Pottery Barn Kids site to view the entire collection - it's never too early to start thinking about next year's Halloween.

The Story of Keep Calm and Carry On

Ever wonder where the line "Keep Calm and Carry On" came from? The well-known slogan dates back to 1939 when the UK government was looking to create a campaign to boost public morale during the beginning of the Second World War. Though we're not in war times, we can certainly identify with this slogan during stressful work periods.

Check out this short video - produced by UK bookstore Barter Books - to learn more about the catchphrase's humble beginnings to its widely popular status in today's society:

The Confident 30s

If you're a twenty-something CCG, it seems your most stylish years are yet to come. CCGs in your mid-thirties? You've hit your stride and are looking (and probably feeling) more confident than ever. These are the findings of a recent study conducted in the UK, which had conclusions such as three out of four women believe their sense of style improved greatly after their 20s, and that six out of ten women believe men age better than they do, with two thirds attributing this to the fact men don’t have to give birth.

And who did women in the study vote as the female celebrity most considered to be in her prime? Find out by clicking here to read Study: Women Peak at 35, Become Most Confident or copy and paste this link into your Web browser:

Getting Bookish with Baby

Call it the ambitious CCG mom in us, but boy, do we ever enjoy story time with our little one—the quality family time is just what we need to unwind from a work day, plus we're a big believer in helping our child to develop a love for reading at a very early age. One of our very children's books is Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers, Illustrated by Marla Frazee (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). The large size format (it's 10.75" by 9.25") of this board book makes it extra easy for baby's small fingers to flip the pages. Your little one will revel in excitement over each page, depicting all the wonderful things that babies do (play, sleep, eat, make noise, etc.). You'll find that you can't help but have fun reading the clever, rhyming text to your little and, after many readings of this book, she's sure to imitate the sing-song tone. We're positive this will be a much-loved addition to the baby library collection.

3 Things Missing From Your Will

In What’s likely missing from your will by Stefania Moretti (originally published at MoneySense.ca in April 2012), the question of who you plan to leave your digital assets to is raised. After all, though they may not be assets in the traditional sense like a car or house, your Aeroplan rewards and iTunes library still have some serious monetary value.

The two other things probably missing from your will? Find out by clicking here to read Moretti's article or copy and paste this link into your Web browser:

Delectable Investment

Here's a treat that's a must-have for the emergency snack stash at work - OMG's are mouthwatering clusters of chocolate and graham wafers mixed with diced almonds and crunchy toffee bits. Available in both milk and dark chocolate, these candies are the brainchild of the same guys who brought us Clodhoppers and they were even featured on reality show Dragon's Den. Movie Worth Watching: Pitch Perfect

Is this Glee for the silver screen? Comparisons will certainly be made but we think Pitch Perfect (Universal Pictures), starring Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Elizabeth Banks, about an all-girls a cappella group who rebuilds so they can make their way to the championship, has real potential to be a hit film for fall.

Busy body

Leah Eichler recently tackled a most interesting topic in her column in The Globe and Mail, asking the question Is being super busy so bad?

As one industrious career gal, who Eichler interviewed for the article, remarked, “I’m happiest when I’m teetering on the edge of chaos, when I’m pushing hard on several fronts at once.” The same person goes on to say, “It’s when I’m most productive, and I get a real adrenalin rush from making it all work.”

How about you? Do you feel most productive when chaos ensues, and you have to make sense of it all?

"Tuff" Case to Crack

When we're working, we take our MacBook everywhere - to the office, cafés, the library, pretty much anywhere that we can get some typing done. And with carting it from place to place, we like to ensure our precious laptop's got a sturdy shield to protect it from potential nicks, bumps, and scrapes. Our top choice? UK-based Tuff-Luv's Slim-Line Leather Case Cover for Apple MacBook Pro 2011. The lightweight, stylish, faux leather case has a magnetic closure flap to keep the case firmly closed, as well as clips to the open lid while we're working (no need to remove the case when it's in use - awesome!). Six SD card slots and a business card holder on the inside of the flap also helps to keep us organized. This gorgeous cover for one of our most prized possessions is worth every cent.

Fairest of them All

Oh, how we love our coffee in the morning! We've found a fabulous new favourite in 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, the Vancouver-based company that produces custom roasted coffee beans. Our current favourites include Guatemala La Bolsa Ventana Grande, El Salvador El Naranjo, and Organic French Roast.

What's more, we love hearing the story behind the green coffee. Owners and master roasters, Michael and Vince Piccolo, travel to coffee farms around the globe to meet with and develop ethical business relationships with the farmers who provide the beans for roasting. With the Piccolo brothers personally sourcing coffee beans from Africa, the Americas, as well as Central America and South Pacific, we can positively attest that every cup tastes like the freshest, highest quality coffee we've ever drank—now that's what we call a great way to kickstart the work day.

Pineapple Lover's Dream

We love serving (and eating!) fresh fruit in the summer and one of our all-time faves is pineapple. But oh, how we dislike the nuisance of cutting this fanciful fruit. Not anymore! We got ourselves the very handy Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer & Wedger which peels, cores and slices a fresh pineapple in seconds. Working like a corkscrew, this easy-to-use manual gadget removes the flesh in perfectly formed rings. The separate wedger part can be used to cut the pineapple rings into uniform-looking pieces. And for us "it's all about the presentation" type hostesses, the intact shell is perfect for serving a desert or fruit salad with flair. Trust us, you won't want to cut a pineapple any other way once you get this!

Not into the rock 'em, sock 'em action blockbusters that are typical of the season? People Like Us (DreamWorks Pictures) is this summer's answer to a good-hearted, touching drama film about Sam (Chris Pine), a fast-talking salesman who is required to deliver a large sum of money (bequeathed by his deceased father) to Frankie (Elizabeth Banks), the sister he never knew he had. Taking Care of Kitty's Business

Why is it that cat litter boxes look so ugly and archaic? We were on the prowl for one for our feline friend and were disappointed to find limited choices in this necessary product. We knew we wanted something clean and contemporary, yet fun but not too childish. After much searching, we discovered one we absolutely love—the Cats Rule Charlie Litter Box. With a cat head-shaped entry (super cute!), it's wide enough for kitty's easy access, and the high sides and back help to reduce spraying and litter scratching.  The covered litter box, with double-venting to allow for air flow, is also the perfect size to allow kitty to move around and dig inside the box to do her business. We also appreciate that it’s seam-free making it easy to clean and there's even a spot to house the litter scoop right in the back of the box. How purr-fect!

Funny Gals Can't Get a Break

In a recent post on The Globe and Mail's Hot Button Blog, Zosia Bielski wrote on the topic of Female jokesters bomb in the boardroom, study shows. The study, done at a British university by a linguistics expert, found that "about 70 per cent of the women opted for self-deprecating humour [however] more than 80 per cent of the jokes were met with painful silence." On the other hand, "90 per cent of jokes made by men scored 'immediate laughter.' Consequently, men were three times more likely to kid around while leading a meeting."

The study appears to suggest that "these men used humour to display their dominance [while] women would rather laugh at themselves on the whole than laugh at others because it is the safe option".
