Hard hitting, smooth tasting

Mike's Hard Lemonade
Cottage time has arrived and we're rather fond of sitting on the patio deck with a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade in hand. With the sun shining down on us, the aroma of burgers wafting from the grill, and this refreshing lemonade cooler to quench our thirst, we're hard-pressed to think of a better way to spend a beautiful summer day.

Dirty laundry, pristine wine

Though most of us may not be lucky enough to take in the picturesque views of Okanagan Valley daily, we can certainly bring a piece (or, rather, a bottle) of it home with us! In beautiful Summerland, B.C. lies the gorgeous and cheeky-named Dirty Laundry Vineyard, producer of the voluptuous 2008 Gewurztraminer - Madam's Vines. The white wine's intense flavours and aromas of lavender and lychee (yum!) easily seduces our taste buds. Strong flavoured cheeses, seafood or simply "sitting back and relaxing on a warm summer day" are all vintner recommendations of what goes well with this delightful wine. Cheers!

Amusingly impressive

Dan Aykroyd Cabernet Merlot VQA We love Canadian funny man Dan Aykroyd for his memorable roles in flicks such as Grosse Point Blank and Trading Places. Plus, who can forget him in classics like Ghostbusters, Dragnet and The Blues Brothers? Well funny enough, this comedic actor/screenwriter isn't just a hit on the silver screen--he's got winemaking skills too! A fellow CCG brought a bottle of Dan Aykroyd Cabernet Merlot VQA wine over as a hostess gift, and though we were initially skeptical of how it would taste, any doubt was erased after our first sip. Our palates were amused and delighted by the hints of green bell pepper as well as layers of fruit and spice. Food pairing recommendations include cabbage rolls with thick tomato sauce or ground beef lasagna. We washed down our barbecue chicken sandwiches with this medium-bodied red and discovered this to also be a good pairing. Mr. Aykroyd, we raise a glass to your comedic wit and your winemaking finesse!

Red red wine

Lailey Vineyard 2006 Pinot Noir Niagara River VQAAfter a long work day, we love pouring oursleves a glass of fine red wine and savouring its refined taste. The medium-bodied 2006 Pinot Noir Niagara River VQA from Lailey Vineyard is one we supremely enjoy for its delicate floral notes, smelling also of cherry and spice aromas. A pretty wine that embodies freshness, elegance, and sophistication all at once. Cheers, darling!

California Dreamin'

Twin Fin Sauvignon Blanc SemillonThe laidback and no-fuss Twin Fin Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is the perfect wine to help you unwind. The fruity and refreshing taste is just as relaxing as how you'd feel when lying on the beach on a sunny day. And after a long work week, isn't that the kind of feeling we all need? Cheers!
